Reflection: Building My Personal WordPress Website

Building my personal WordPress website was one of the first practical steps in the WP Credits program. For this project, I chose to use WordPress.com because it allowed me to focus on creating and organizing my website without having to manage the technical side of hosting separately. Since this website will be used as a portfolio to document my progress, activities, and contributions, I wanted a simple platform that would let me start quickly and continue improving the site over time.

One of the main challenges I faced was adapting the original template to make the website feel personal. The default design contained content that was unrelated to my project, so I had to replace the text, images, sections, and navigation with information about myself, my studies, WP Credits, and my work with the Polyglots team. Deciding what information should appear on the homepage was also important because I wanted the site to be simple, clear, and focused on my learning journey.

One thing I learned during this process is how flexible WordPress can be. I realized that a template is only a starting point and that it can be completely adapted depending on the purpose of the website. I also became more familiar with the block editor, site structure, navigation, pages, posts, and the difference between editing content and editing the overall design of the website.

Overall, creating this website helped me better understand how WordPress works from a practical perspective. As I continue through the WP Credits program, I plan to use this site to share my progress, screenshots, results, reflections, and links to my WordPress profiles and contributions.
